What In Vitro Fertilization
Over 6.1 million individuals who are affected by some type of infertility. Today, there are many options to help infertile women to conceive. In vitro fertilization is one such procedure.
In 1978, in vitro fertilization was successfully completed for the first time in the United Kingdom. Since that time, well over 250,000 babies have been born as a result of using this technique. IVF has allowed many women who have not been able to conceive a baby in the past, to get pregnant and have a baby of their own.
In vitro fertilization is a procedure where a man's sperm is introduced to the woman's egg in a laboratory dish where it is then fertilized. The IVF procedure, also known as assisted reproduction, usually takes about 40 hours. After the woman's egg has been fertilized, the embryo is then transferred into the womb and allowed to develop naturally
IVF is typically used as a form of treatment for women with blocked, severely damaged, or no fallopian tubes or if the women has been diagnosed with endometriosis. IVF treatment is also used if the male has a low sperm count, or when other fertility methods and fertility drugs have failed.
IVF treatment has made it possible for women, who once thought they couldn't conceive a child, to become mothers. o
Reproductive health is not all that has to be considered when dealing with assisted conception. Several factors such as age, overall physical health and medical history will be considered before IVF or any other infertility procedure is practiced.
